NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual
project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the
month of April.
NaPoWriMo, founded in 2003, when poet Maureen Thorson decided
to take up the challenge. She modeled this
after NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month. Ms. Thorson has
challenged other poets, like herself, to join in on the fun. And since it exists,
the participants in NaPoWriMo have grown
every year, and many writers’ organizations, local, national and even
International, have joined NaPoWriMo activities.
I loved when I open my thighs
where you drop
your seed
to fulfill your need
I took the shame
Hearing your
disclaim
The abuse
called a whore
to your amused
Yet I Loved
withstood the looks
heard the
laughter
endured the scorn
from those
timeworn
I felt love even
After you
brazenly
beggared
fathering another
felt it move
seating in
school
felt the pain
called out
your name
felt the shame
he
wouldn’t have your name
felt Tried,
Sad,
Lost,
Pity,
Hatred,
Bitterness,
Holding my penence
my Life Sentence
Your face, your smile
I wanted to hate
he wasn’t you
a child’s stare
eyes opened
were mine
love felt
absent of regret
Life sentence
revoke
Your love no longer welcome
